Stuck In The Middle

Stuck in the MiddleRecently, very recently, I had to make a difficult decision, mainly on moral grounds.

The problem is that as I have said before, just because you make a difficult decision, for all the right reasons, you aren’t necessarily happy that you had to make that decision.

I know that Jayne and Ken will be reading this and saying that I need to do a lot more chanting about it. Believe me, I have chanted and chanted, and chanted some more, but if you are unhappy about why you made the decision, it leaves you stuck in the middle of a dilemma.

Given time, and changes in circumstances, I am sure it will work itself out, but right now I’m just stuck.

Off to chant again now, it’s the best way to get resolution. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.

Just a minor point on a courageous decision & something to ponder. Would it be more correct to say that your decision was made on the basis of cause and effect rather than on moral grounds? It is very subtle but morality is concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong; whereas in Buddhism, there are no rules, there is no right or wrong, only cause and effect. This makes a decision very difficult because there is no rigid guideline only our own compassion, wisdom and courage.
I remember a long time ago a famous photographer, saying to me about my job, “If it was easy, everybody would do it!” The same could be said for a difficult decision; anybody can make a decision where there is no deep connection and nothing to lose – that’s easy. But to go against what your emotions tell you and make a compassionate, reasoned, life-changing decision such as yours takes deep courage. This is worthy of great respect
