Oops !!!

PoisonMy progress, through my Practice, has been pretty steady and positive for quite a while now.

So imagine my surprise when I seemed to take a step backwards yesterday. Nothing terminal, of course, and maybe it was long overdue and rather understandable.

Naturally, it’s tempting to only blog my successes, the good things, and paint a rosy picture. But that wouldn’t be a true reflection of my path.

I’m not going to go into details, those who need to know, already know, but I am going to use this challenge to strengthen my resolve, so more poison into medicine and proof that my faith is strong.

Just Another Brick In The Wall

Looking At A WallWith ever increasing mindfulness, our own feelings will change as we reflect on the causes for those feelings.

We know that acting in haste, motivated by anger, disappointment or desperation will result in the causes of unwanted effects.

So when you encounter what appears to be an insurmountable challenge, a wall if you will, you should tell yourself, “Since there is a wall here, a wide open expanse must lie on the other side.”

Rather than becoming discouraged, you should realise that the very fact you are encountering this wall is actual proof of the progress that you have made so far.

So if you find yourself facing such a wall, prepare to strive with all your heart, and you will surely find a way to get to the other side.

If It Isn’t Broken

If it isn't broken ...You know the saying, ‘if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it’ meaning that some things are best left alone. Sadly today has been a day of trying to mend something that wasn’t broken in the first place.

Although this time it wasn’t my doing, it was a frustrating time for all concerned, and it’s still not working as I write this. So it’s been a really long day, with not very much to show for all our efforts.

Now there is something that I won’t be changing. My practice, it works for me, it works for countless others around the world. The proof is there for us all to see, in our daily lives, in everything we do, so why change a single thing?

More Proof Of Practice?

WhoopeeIf you read yesterday’s post, you will know that today was Charlotte’s day of reckoning.

The decision to be made, was that of whether she could commence her cancer treatment whilst being able to continue with her pregnancy.

So I chanted, and chanted and chanted some more. Several people who read the blog also offered to chant for Charlotte, and for that, I am so very grateful.

This morning was very tense, I knew that Charlotte’s appointment was looming and that any decision that meant she would lose the baby would be a terrible blow.

I sent supportive texts and waited.

Then relief, a text from Charlotte telling me that she had got her dearest wish, she can keep the baby.

I realise that this is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is the end of the beginning. I also realise that the result doesn’t prove that my practice influenced the outcome today, all I do know, is that the more I practice, the more these positives seem to happen.

Calm Amidst The Storm

The ScreamBefore I start this post, I want to say that although it is about me and our current situation, it is not a boast or in any way self glorification. So here goes …

Yesterday, as you may already know, my eldest daughter Charlotte was diagnosed with breast cancer. She will receive the results of the biopsy next week, but that will probably only give more details of the form of cancer she has.

You can probably imagine the emotional turmoil that the family was going through yesterday evening. There was a lot of crying and pain.

The strange thing was that I wasn’t part of that grieving. Maybe it was because I was 100 miles from Charlotte, so wasn’t affected by the upset in others, though I did speak to everyone by phone. You might say that I am hard-hearted, though those who know me well will tell you otherwise. It certainly isn’t that I don’t love my daughter, because I do, with all my heart.

I hadn’t really even noticed that I had remained so calm and collected until one person after another commented upon it.

But my belief is that it’s my Practice that has allowed me to cope with such a trauma. Of course, as soon as I heard about Charlotte’s diagnosis I started praying and chanting for her to make a complete recovery. The chanting helped my life-energy levels and also brought me closer to the World of Bodhisattva, but it appears to have allowed me to remain composed and I feel that has helped other people too.

I suppose I shouldn’t be at all surprised because this is what is so powerful about Nichiren Buddhism. It actually allows you to control, to a greater or lesser extent, your own life-state, or mood in common terms, as well as your life-energy. Nichiren insists that we test our Practice in that if we don’t see tangible results from what we practice, we desist from that practice.

Well the Practice has certainly proven itself today, and that is good for me and, of course most importantly, for Charlotte.
