Sunny Social Sunday

Cottage GardenWhat a glorious Sunday !!!

Early March but wonderful warm sunshine, a family breakfast and a relaxing time in the cottage garden, just perfect.

Compared to the hullabaloo of Saturday, this is just so chilled. Everyone has their little tasks to complete, but there’s no rush, so it’s a nice case of fun in the sun.

The pace of life is so hectic these days, everyone rushing around and trying meet crazy deadlines. So to be able to take time to slow down, surround yourself with family and enjoy life is a privilege. It really makes you realise how fortunate you are.

Every Cloud

SunriseIt has been pretty cold for the last week, yesterday I even had frost on the car first thing, and the days are so short. The mornings are dark, the evenings are even darker, and it feels natural to get home after a long day at work, and curl up like a bear in his cave.

This morning wasn’t so cold, though the car was still covered in a fine dew. There was no breeze and because the children have finished school for the holiday, it felt like I was the only one not to be still tucked up in bed. But as with most things in life, and particularly in Buddhist life, every cloud has a silver lining. Every drop of poison can be turned into a drop of medicine and so it was this morning.

Driving down the Blandford road, the headlights of the oncoming cars and trucks were so bright against the velvet blackness of the early morning. The traffic was slow and I was wondering whether I was going to get to the office on time. Then very suddenly every thought changed, and my worry turned to wonder.

As the first rays of the sun peeped over the horizon they created a majestic and awe-inspiring sunrise, illuminating a beautifully sculptured high bank of clouds. It was amazing, the colours were stunning, and the whole spectacle changed second by second. It was so huge, completely filling the sky, it was impossible to take in the whole. It transformed my journey and in fact my whole day. Of course, the sun comes up every day, but some days it does it in much more wondrous ways than others.

I Love Sundays

A wonderful eveningWhat a fantastic day!!! Sunday may well be the best day of the week, and today was a particularly good example. A nice lie-in, followed by gentle, concentrated Gongyo and then a warm, sunny day of pleasant variety. A little bit of work, so tomorrow morning isn’t the deluge of last week, some washing, some cricket, some football and cycling on the telly and a nice walk this evening, just perfect.

This evening, the sun was sinking slowly down behind the boat yard. It was still warm and the baby seagulls were mewing to be fed, so I took a slow stroll along the beach and along to Hamworthy park. There were still a number of families enjoying the seaside, people walking their dogs and others just sitting enjoying the view over to Brownsea island.

The view from the beach

Everyone I encountered was very convivial. It’s funny how the weather affects people’s mood. A nice warm, soft evening and everyone was in a nice warm, soft mood and keen to chat. A golden Labrador decided to join me on my walk, much to the angst of it’s owner, so I pointed him in the right direction and he trotted off.

The view towards Brownsea islandIt was the perfect day to live in the moment, take in every wonderful aspect, and make the most of the day. Maybe it was because I have a nice short week this week, I’m on holiday from Tuesday evening for a few days, or maybe it was just because it was such a nice day, after all the bad weather we had last week. Whatever the reason, I decided today, that I love Sundays.
